ROTARY WALK REPORT - THURSDAY 17th OCT
As the Leader failed to ask for a participant to volunteer to write a report; it must therefore fall to that Leader to write his own report! It would be most immodest of him, however, to record what perfect weather we enjoyed and what a delightful two-hour, undemanding, circular walk of approximately three and a half miles it was. Starting from the Royal Oak at Walgrave, across fields to Harrington, and back to the start where the five Walkers were joined by three more, making a convivial table of eight.
During the walk we skirted a field with a crop, wrongly identified by some walkers as Oil Seed Rape. This was in fact Mustard, and the Purple flowered plant scattered within the crop was Phacelia Tantacetifolia, more commonly known as Fiddleneck. This grows to a height of four feet, winter flowering attractive to insects, originating from SW USA and along with the Mustard is used as Green Fertilizer.
The Leader, because of the quality of leadership and his ability to absorb the caustic and hurtful comments on his inability to count the number of stiles, was awarded the Walker of the Month trophy.
