The walk will be along the canal side, then up to the church and through the village and back along footpaths to the Admiral Nelson.  About 2 miles.

Plenty of interest to see along the way at this time of year.  Suggest we meet at 10.15 for 10.30 am start.  

For those just having lunch, please be there by 12.30pm.

Rotary Walk Report - July 18th From the Admiral Nelson, Braunston.

Driving to the pub in pouring rain wasn’t the most auspicious start to the day, and finding the pub was also a challenge along the increasingly narrow lanes to the car park, which  was already busy with walkers. Another group had chosen the same venue, but equipped with their backpacks, walking poles, and maps they looked a far more serious outfit than our motley crew.

As we gathered for the elf and safety briefing the rain stopped and we were entertained by the comings and goings through the adjacent lock, which was surprisingly busy.

We were soon on our way along the towpath taking in all the sights of life on the waterways, looking in the shops and greeting the passing boaters and walkers. A few of us popped into the Waterways Information Centre, where a very friendly volunteer regaled us with a potted history of the local area, which was in danger of making us miss lunch altogether. However, we slowly extracted ourselves leaving Dottie alone to make a final polite exit.

After the compulsory bridge photo, with Braunston marina as a backdrop, we left the canal and made our way up a steep hill to the village church. A meander through the back streets of Braunston followed by a steep walk through another field led us back to the canal and a short walk to the pub.

After a welcome lunch and drink the walker of the month trophy was unwrapped and presented to Ann Mortimer for allowing Graham to join us, after Kevin agreed to bring her to lunch, or something like that. The Sargent at Arms duly noted the the trophy was missing the Buckingham Palace bag which has become an integral part of the presentation. I feel a fine is in the offing. He’s never off duty!
