We enjoyed another Saturday night of music, fellowship and fun on 11 February at our second “Dinner with a Diva” - this time at the Park Inn by Radisson. President Brian and Elizabeth Varnham Phillips again brought the sound of operatic arias and show songs to the town, as well as a WWII sketch, when the cast created an unusual, twin-engine, Lancaster bomber from which they managed, unfortunately, to bomb Gillingham.
For the singing, they were ably supported by tenor, Ben Kerslake (right, seen interacting with an unnamed lady in the audience), Bass Baritone, Toby Sims, and one of Elizabeth’s pupils, Maria Sofia Silvestri who all entered into the fun, interacting with the audience.
With the usual format of musical interludes between courses of an excellent dinner the evening went with a swing with much laughter and applause, and President Brian even took to the floor as the rascally landlord, singing “Master of the House” from Les Miserables. Elizabeth’s costume and make up as the landlady were magnificent.
