We will be travelling by coach to Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe & Sausage Shop in Melton Mowbray where we will each make a pork pie. These will be baked ovenight and picked up the following day by our President for distribution to the pie makers.
Last Tuesday sixteen Rotarians and Wives jumped on a Coach, and
traveled to Dickinson and Morris' "Olde Pork Pie Shoppe" in Melton Mowbray
We arrived at 7.15 and were given instructions on Dress Code. We all
looked very pretty in our smart headwear and apron ( See Photos)
We were given a demonstration on how we should make the Pies, and as you
will see from the photos the ingredients and a "Dolly" were all laid out
ready for us
All went reasonably well, although David Allitt did have to make his pie
more than once. He seemed unable to throw his meat directly into the
pastry case, but with professional help he managed in the end. However, I
understand that on Wednesday he gave his pie to Stan Evans. I wonder
why???? Stan was not at Mondays Meeting!!!!
After we had successfully made the pies we went into the shop to
purchase more Pork Pies to take home
The following morning Elizabeth and I went back to Melton to collect
the cooked pies, all of which were identified by the number we were each given
at the start. I was informed that the Best Pork Pie, as voted for by the staff, was that of "Master Baker" Kevin Greatorex
I understand that most were Pork-Pied out by the end of the week, but it was a wonderful evening of fun and hilarity, appreciated by all
