His research has been concerned with many aspects of vision, development, plasticity of the brain, and neurodegenerative disease. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences. Colin has been President of the British Science Association, the British Neuroscience Association, the Physiological Society and the Society of Biology, and he is President or Patron of a number of medical charities.
He is also a frequent broadcaster (including the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures and a 13-part series on the brain for BBC2); he writes books about science (including The Mind Machine and The Oxford Companion to the Body) and articles for the national press.Here is a report on the event
