The Rotary Club of Market Bosworth are always keen to encourage youth competitions and this year, despite the restrictions of Covid, has been no different.
We were delighted to receive 40 entries to our Young Artist Competition and 50 for our Young Writer Competition.
The winners, runners-up and third places in both competitions all came from St Margaret's C of E School, Stoke Golding. The judges of the artwork were impressed with the high standard of entries, with the winners showing a real understanding of the environmental brief. The artwork brief was "Colours of Nature", producing some powerful images emblazoned with brilliant colours.
Market Bosworth Rotarian Youth Lead, John Whitehead presented certificates to Iris Quinn and Mia Lees, our winning Young Writer and Young Artist, whose entries were then submitted to the District finals. The District included entries from Lincolnshire to Bedfordshire and once again these entries received commendations. Iris was Highly Commended for her letter, an environmental appeal to planet earth, and Mia was awarded the district runners-up prize for her brilliant depiction of a lion. Staff and pupils at St Margarets C of E school, Stoke Golding should be applauded for the high standard of competition entries inall categories that they entered.
Prizewinners
1st Mia Lees (lion)
2nd Daniel Lees (floral collage)
3rd Harry Carruthers (tree)
Highly Commended
Sophia Hurley (butterfly)
Marcel Cox ( tigers)
Kiera Roberts (volcano)
Madison Moreton (elephant)
The writing included a letter of apology to planet Earth, a letter demanding a change of approach by a polluting company, a poem encouraging recycling and a greener approach, an appeal to politicians and an explanation of the impact of insecticide methods on bees.
If only adults could embrace the approaches advocated by our schoolchildren. The dire warning is that we must change now to protect our fragile planet before it is too late.
Let there be no doubt that our current generation of schoolchildren are environmentally aware and really care about the future of our planet.
