Reece Rennie, the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle's candidate for RYLA 2023, attended the meeting on October 3rd, where he presented to the Club Members about the 7-Day RYLA Course he participated in. Reece mentioned that while he was prepared for some activities, such as rock climbing and kayaking, other challenges caught him off guard and pushed him well beyond his comfort zone. He specifically noted that the 5.6 km hike, navigating with a map at night, enduring a chilly night under canvas, and waking up at 6 a.m. to walk 2 km before breakfast were particularly demanding. Reece expressed that the event exceeded his expectations, and after completing the course, he felt more confident that the experience had enhanced his leadership skills as well as his ability to help and motivate those around him.
