Melanie Findlay, Client Services Director SGK, gave a presentation on the packaging of goods for a range of well-known High Street suppliers and manufacturer's. Her work includes the design and manufacture of packaging for a range of commodities and food stuffs both for new and existing products. She went on to demonstrate how colour plays such huge part in focusing product advertisements, to target the preferences and aspirations of the various age groups within the population.

Over the past 20 years there have been major changes in the way in which we purchase goods and services. It is estimated that 20% of all purchases are now completed using a mobile device. This calls for a greater deal of consistency of product and re-thinking of retail shopping space. There has also been a massive change in the way that families come together, to socialise, to eat, with an endless variety of pre-cooked meals, treats and snacks.

While the design, colour and shape of packaging makes an impact upon sales there is increasing presssure from the Customer to make all packaging recyclable. The industry is working towards 100% recyclability by 2025 and this is pushing forward the development of new packaging materails.

In  a question and answer session at the end of the presentation the Group scored well in identifying various recyclable materials

An excellent, informative and thought provoking presentation.
