At the beginning of July, we took part in Meriden C of E Primary School Summer Faire. We were able to arrange for Coilin, from the charity Aquabox, to come along and he brought a complete Aquabox which was on display. This is a charity, originally started by Rotary in this country, and is now international. After a natural disaster when local housing and water supplies are often destroyed, Aquaboxes are rapidly flown in. Each box contains items to make a dry shelter, cooking utensils, blankets, etc and a special pump that is hand operated and will rapidly convert dirty unhygienic water into clean drinking water all helping to save lives. Colin demonstrated the pump, asking children to do the pumping, and they were amazed to see it sucking up dirty water and sending it out crystal clear into a mug and then to emphasise the point he would drink some!
We are talking the school about doing a small project in the autumn term about the importance of clean water world-wide to health and life.
