SUPERB FOOD, EXCELLENT HOSPITALITY, WONDERFUL ENTERTAINMENT AND ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

Despite being four and a half years since the current war in Ukraine started the country is still under constant threat. So on wonderful sunny afternoon on Sunday 28th June Meriden Rotary joined with the Healing Hands Network to hold a Garden Party/Pig Roast and for a celebration of Ukrainian folk songs and dancing.

The Healing Hands Network send volunteer qualified complementary therapists to treat people suffering physical & mental trauma following war, its aftermath and who may be suffering PTSD. They work to help civilians overseas in Bosnia & Herzegovina together with veterans of the armed forces in the UK and are currently supporting Ukraine by sending donated medical & humanitarian aid and vehicles as needed.

Although the driving to Ukraine is undertaken by volunteers, transport costs are substantial with an on-going need for funding. The Garden Party and pig roast at the home of Karin and Malcolm from Meriden Rotary resulted in over 125 attending in glorious sunshine and raised lots of money to help meet these costs.

The food was excellent, the company scintillating and Sue Stretton from Healing Hands Network was instrumental in obtaining support from the Mriya Dance Troupe with 7 professional and 8 children bringing some colourful Ukrainian traditional dancing to complete the event. Once the festivities started there was a constant stream of volunteers to entertain us.

Many thanks for the attendance of our District Governor Jaz Dhaliwal and PDG Jonathan Wilding during a very busy weekend. If you missed it then join us next year – when we’ll try and make it even better!
