Two of our more recent Rotarians Kay Johnson and Jean Haughey gave very interesting vocational talks. Jean Haughey was born in Ballingry in 1947, her dad being a miner and mum a French Polisher. She left school and went to Cowdenbeath Technical College for shorthand typing and Economics and ended up getting a job there as a junior clerkess. She then moved on to Central Farmers (seed Potatoes) and from their as a Senior Clerkess at Lauder Technical College. She married in 1968 and had her first son Owen in 1970 and a few years later Matthew was born. She was involved in Invigilating at Glenwood High School. She is a keen Archer and Jean brought along a bow and arrows to support her talk. During the talk Linda Ballingall related to some of Jean’s story as it appeared they had lived only 3 doors from one another when children, but they can’t remember one another but did remember a lot of the people Jean was talking about.
Kay Johnson was born in Boston Lincolnshire in 1954, her dad a Milkman. She had two sisters and a brother. At the age of 19 she met President Brian and then got married in 1974 when he was studying at university. Kay worked as a stock control clerk in a dried food factory and then as a receptionist in an Opticians and then a local hotel. They bought their first house in Lincoln and in 1979 her daughter Rebecca was born and three years later in 1982 their son Peter was born.
