On Thursday 16th February 2023 President Brian Johnson, took the meeting as he welcomed 18 Rotarians and guest Rose Duncan to this our lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes.
At the start of the meeting President Brian Johnson had the pleasure of Inducting Rose Duncan into the club. Geoff Sampson presented Rose to the members who had previously been a member at Leven and Howe of Fife Rotary Clubs and presently managing at Brighter Futures Health Hub in Glenrothes, brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in the local community, will be a great addition to the club.
Wilna Roger spoke about the highly successful Young Musician competition the previous week and the Glenrothes High School Interact Club and thanked members for bringing in Old Specs and carrier bags to help support their 2 projects the collection of carrier bags for the Foodbank and Collecting spectacles for SpecSort. She also mentioned the Young Artist competition which takes place on 23rd February at Auchmuty High School. It had been suggested that with the wealth of talented youngsters in the locale that Rotary might like to consider organising a Glenrothes Talent Competion.
Anne Sampson mentioned the afternoon tea on Sunday 19th February 2023 at the Studio8 in Glenrothes with entertainment being provided by Brad Stalker and the Rock Choir with numbers looking promising with 96 already having said they would attend, she also mentioned that the Primary School Quiz would take place on Thursday 2nd March at Auchmuty HS commencing at 6:30pm
Scott Galloway once again mentioned the Race night to be held at Gilvenbank Hotel on Friday 7th April - 6.30 for 7pm
President Brian mentioned that our Ukrainian family whom we had supported last year were in the process of getting their mother out of war-torn Ukraine back to safety with them in Scotland. As we go to press we believe she is now back in Scotland and safety.
Kay Johnson discussed the Turkey/Syrian earthquake and had approached the Fife Council for a licence and Kingdom Centre management and dates of the 25th February at Cadham shops and 4th March at Kingdom Centre where monetary donations for the Disaster can be given.
Iain Oates spoke about the Ian Chalmers Scots Poetry competition which is due to take place at our meeting next Thursday 23rd February where we expect 6 Primary schools to be involved.
Jean Haughey mentioned that along with Doreen Gray they had visited Collydean Primary where they had helped judge the Ian Chalmers Scots Poetry competition and had a winner to go forward to the finals. They have also been invited along to the school’s prize giving. Jean also mentioned that she had been communicating with Coaltown and South Parks Primary schools concerning their nominations for the competition.
Next week Thursday 23rd February 2023 arrival by 12.45pm commencing at 1pm prompt with the judging of the Ian Chalmers Scots Poetry competition. Ian’s daughter Vicki will be with us from Tenerife on a ZOOM link
