On Thursday 20th October 2022 President Brian Johnson, welcomed 16 club Rotarians and Susanne McRoberts to this our lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.
President Brian mentioned the sponsored fund raiser “a mile walk for a £1” for raising some funds for end Polio now which will take place on Saturday 22nd October. He also mentioned that he had spoken with Linda Ballingall with a view to joining the fundraising team, this she had agreed to.
Wilna Roger asked members if they would like to attend the RSNO at the Carnegie Hall on Saturday 7th January 2023 as she was going to order up tickets.
David Cooper asked if the club were happy for him to order further plants for the Rotary Planter at the Riverside Park for next year’s planting. This was agreed.
Anne Sampson mentioned the Buckhaven and Methil Rotary club’s fundraising Quiz which was due to take place tomorrow 21st October 2022. We had submitted two teams.
Iain Oates mentioned our Just Giving page which Anne Sampson had set up and he advised that he was competing in the Edinburgh 10k run on 4th December which people could use to make any donations.
Our speaker this week was Susanne McRoberts who has lived in Glenrothes for 41 years and is involved with cubs and scouts locally was previously involved working with the social work dept and now manages the Glenrothes Community Sports & Health Hub. A home for sport in the north of Glenrothes, bringing together key partner clubs including Glenrothes Cricket Club, Glenrothes Athletic Football Club and Glenrothes Tennis Club to develop and grow the sporting offering in our local community was set up in 2015/16. The Glenrothes Community Sports and Health Hub aim to create a family friendly sport and social hub that benefits the whole community. This is achieved by working together with local sport clubs and key partners to develop welcoming, safe, inclusive, and fun environments for sport and wellbeing. It has also developed into a Community Larder Keeping good food out of landfill - free and open to everyone, supported by Glenrothes Foodbank, Collydean Community Centre and other local shops and supermarkets. Held 17:00-18:00 every Wednesday and Friday for the winter. Andy's Man Club is a peer-to-peer support group for men over 18 to help them through life, and to help challenge the stigmas of mental health and to promote suicide prevention across the whole of the UK. They meet on Monday evenings from 19:00 at the Hub. Women’s Wellbeing Club is a group set up for ladies to meet and talk about mental health issues, in a safe place that is non-judgmental and where you can let things out to others. Tuesday evenings from 18:30 at the Hub. Sporting Memories Club where the Sporting Memories Foundation approach uses the power of remembering and talking about sport – along with physical exercise – to tackle dementia, depression, and loneliness specifically with older adults. Join our free and friendly Sporting Memories Club at the Hub, every Thursday 10:30 to 12:00 with free refreshments. Employability Support and Advice is run by Karen Golden to Support with CV's, application forms, interview techniques, speculative letters and more. For those looking to get back into employment (e.g. after recovering from health issues) or looking to change their circumstances (e.g. increase from part time to full time hours). Every Wednesday 14:00-16:00 at the Hub.
