.

On Thursday 13th October 2022 President Brian Johnson, welcomed 18 club Rotarians and Fenning Welstead and Jenny Johnson to this our lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

President Brian mentioned the sponsored fund raiser “a mile walk for a £1” for raising some funds for end Polio now on 22nd October and handed out sponsor sheets.

Our speaker this week was Fenning Welstead chartered rural practice surveyor talking about Sustainable Forestry, who was supported by Jenny Johnson. Fenning spoke about Forestry in a future landscape. The crisis of values and the value of forestry since planting. He mentioned about the natural capital involved, UK imports of wood amounts to 80% of wood usage.

Lindsay Roy mentioned the proposed life sciences induction at St Andrews university in partnership with Madras, Bell Baxter, Auchmuty, Glenrothes and Glenwood high schools - and respective rotary clubs. At a joint meeting of representatives in St Andrews, excellent progress was made in putting some flesh on the skeletal bones of the excellent proposal where it was suggested that 8 places will be offered to each of the five named schools. It was anticipated that the main target population would be S4 - S5 students (third and fourth decile) following at least one science course but school staff will have flexibility in selecting students who are likely to benefit most from this experience. The precise date for the induction will be in 2023 most likely May/June or September to November.

Next week 20th October 2022 will be a lunch time meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel meeting at 12.45pm and commencing at 1pm with our speaker Susanne McRoberts who will be giving us an update on the Glenrothes Hub
