Lunch time meeting - Kevin Okane – Lomond Heritage Trail

On Thursday 8th September 2022 President Brian Johnson, welcomed 17 people which included 16 club Rotarians, and guest speaker Kevin O’kane to this our lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

President Brian advised that he and his wife kay had attended a meeting held at the Cottage family centre in Kirkcaldy where they were discussing the Big Hoose “Amazon” Project. He mentioned that the cost of the warehouse in Lochgelly would be £600k a year, with many organisations looking to get involved. He found the discussion very interesting and informative. He along with Secretary Anne Sampson had a ZOOM meeting with IP District Governor Heather Stuart and Colin Brown president of Fife Chamber of Commerce to discuss the possibility of a Christmas fund raiser to be held at the Baptist Church in Glenrothes Town Centre.

Will Wishart confirmed the Kids out day was going ahead on Wednesday 14^th September at the Deer Park at Cupar with 3 buses taking the 120 children and carers.

Anne Sampson mentioned the proposed Afternoon Tea planned for Sunday 23^rd October 2022 at the Studio8 and that the local Rock choir are unavailable, which now called into question if we can proceed with this charity event.

Geoff Sampson mentioned he had bumped into Gayle Wilson from Leslie Foodbank on Wednesday who was about to assist at a Ukrainian Lunch Club at the Collydean Community Hub, she also mentioned that she was about to attend a meeting with Glenrothes area foodbanks and Hubs, and Geoff asked that we are kept in the loop about further meetings.

Our speaker today was Kevin O’Kane, Greenspace Officer of Fife Council. He had during a brief meeting of hot desking where he was sitting next to Chantal Mrimi got speaking about the open spaces and Chantal had mentioned about the lovely walking areas in Glenrothes and the history surrounding the area around Leslie house and the old Roman influence about the East and West Lomond Hills. He asked the question what is a trail and he mentioned that in many areas around the UK and Europe there are many interesting defined paths/walks e.g. The Appian Way, Newcastle, County Down, Fife Coastal Path, Fife Pilgrims Way and they thought it may make for a good project from Glenrothes up to the Lomond Hills.The Rotary Vote of thanks was given by Chantal Mrimi.

Next week 15th September will be a lunch time meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel meeting at 12.45pm and commencing at 1.00pm with our guest speaker being our District 1010 Governor Ken McLennan.
