Lunch time meeting - Gilvenbank Hotel - Club Business and Fellowship

Thu, Mar 3rd 2022 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

.

On Thursday 3rd March 2022 President Brian Johnson. welcomed 12 Club Rotarians and guest prospective new member Jean Haughey at this lunch time meeting at the Gilvenbank Hotel

Wilna Roger mentioned that the Judging for the Young Musician had taken place by Jennifer and Erik Knussen with Kirsten Fraser from Glenwood HS winning the Vocalist section and Gordon Tulloch from Auchmuty HS the Instrumental section. Feedback notes/advice had been given to all the students on areas for improvement The Young Artist Competition judging will take place this week.

We have received some instruction about our Annual Kids Out trip which normally takes place in June and our Lead Rotarian Will Wishart will be communicating with the schools, bus company and the venue as to the feasibility of having an event this year based on restrictions in place in the forthcoming months.

President Brian advised that he and his wife Kay had attended our Mother Club Kirkcaldy’s 100 anniversary dinner which was held at the Dean Park Hotel on Friday past, 25th February.

Our meeting was cut short as thanks to everybody’s immediate and overwhelming support, President Brian Johnson, Iain Oates, Scott Galloway, Will Wishart and Geoff Sampson were able to take a large vehicle and cars filled with items to support the Ukrainian Crisis to the Linton Community Hall in Templehall Kirkcaldy. Thanks to the generosity of Clarence Machado owner of A2B whom we approached we manged to fill a Luton van. We uplifted items from Freuchie, Glenrothes, other Rotarians and the public. Like us the Linton Lane Community Hall in Templehall managed by Mandy Henderson have been overrun with goods and eventually they had to call a halt to clothing and focussed on specific items and they created a time slot for us which we got for 2pm.

They have so many helpers sorting out goods into categories and they had arranged to transport goods through to Glasgow and these will be getting loaded into Vehicles and moving out to Europe / Poland on the Sunday. Hopefully all documents are in order to allow them to leave the UK.

All may seem a bit chaotic and overwhelming now but we are planning to see if we can streamline the process and thus far we have managed to source two areas for further short-term, storage in Freuchie and in Glenrothes with movement to whether it be Kirkcaldy / Glasgow / Edinburgh hopefully speedily and as quick as the forwarding locations can take our goods.

This coming week Thursday 10th March 2022 is a lunch time ZOOM meeting with our speaker George Rampling giving us an update on Shelter box commencing at 1.00pm.

If you were interested in supporting the community and international projects get in touch by Private message on The Rotary Club of Glenrothes Facebook page. You will be made most welcome.
