On Thursday 28th October 2021 President Brian Johnson. took the chair as he welcomed 17 Club Rotarians, 9 guests of Rotarians and guest speaker MSP Jenny Gilruth to this an evening meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.
There were 10 apologies for nonattendance.
This week our speaker and friend of the club was Jenny Gilruth, she spoke about her early life, being raised in Banff, Aberdeenshire, before her family moved to Ceres, Fife. Her father was born and raised in Newport-on-Tay. Jenny was educated at Madras College, St Andrews and lives in Markinch. She graduated from the University of Glasgow with a degree in sociology and politics, and obtained her Professional Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Strathclyde. Before becoming an MSP, Jenny was a Principal Teacher of Social Subjects at St. Columba's RC High School, in Dunfermline, she was previously a National Qualifications Development Officer at Education Scotland, and prior to that taught Modern Studies at the Royal High School, in Edinburgh. Jenny also marked exams for the Scottish Qualifications Authority and is a published author. She embarked in her Political career in April 2016 and was nominated as the SNP’s candidate for Mid Fife and Glenrothes in the Scottish Parliament election on 5 May 2016. She succeeded Tricia Marwick, who had been the Presiding Officer in the 4th Scottish Parliament (2011–16). In February 2020, Jenny joined the Scottish Government as Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development as part of the reshuffle following the resignation of Cabinet Secretary for Finance Derek Mackay> Jenny eluded to the fact she was also minister responsible for the Pandas at Edinburgh ZOO. !!
After a lengthy period of questions and responses Chantal Mrimi gave the Rotary Vote of Thanks.
Iain Oates mentioned that 30 sapling plants will be delivered to us between the 1-12th November for planting.
The annual Peace Walk has been cancelled because of COVID concerns but will be replaced by the laying of the white wreaths by a limited representation from the three High Schools and Rotarians which will take place during the day on Wednesday 10th November.
This coming week Thursday 4th November there is no speaker and will be a planning and business meeting commencing at 1pm, which will be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel with a meal,
