Lunch time ZOOM meeting - Business meeting

Four apologies for absence were received.

With no speaker this week it gave the club the opportunity of discussing club business. At the crack of dawn this morning school liaison Wilna Roger, Incoming President Brian Johnson, Secretary Anne Sampson, IPP Ewen Macdonald, Scott Galloway and Doreen Gray met up with the rectors Alan Pithie of Auchmuty High, Pamela Davie from Glenrothes High, and Steve Addison from Auchmuty High to discuss and plan for the possibility of school competitions for next term. Also spoken about were the Shoebox appeal, environmental projects and Interact clubs in all the schools.  

Incoming President Brian Johnson spoke about plans for Environmental groups. During the last 12 months although a few of our members have not engaged with ZOOM we have been able to operate successfully on Thursday lunchtimes. This has meant that we have had no evening meetings and social events. The consideration going forward is when will we be able to meet in person and do we want to maintain some meetings on ZOOM. Should there be any interest in purely social events perhaps once a month in an evening. Is there a demand for hybrid meetings? We would need to think about investing in equipment and it would need someone to operate the tech. Do we go back to how we used to run our meetings with a lunch and speakers, certainly a lot to be considered?

With one week to go our involvement will end at the end of May in The Old Tools and Sewing machines project brilliantly and enthusiastically lead by Rotarian Iain Oates (phone 07423 195333) in conjunction with The Ecology Centre at Kinghorn’s Tool Shed who are refurbishing old tools donated by the public and, with the help of the charities Tools for Self-Reliance and the Global Concerns Trust, are shipped out to people with physical disabilities in Malawi. To date we have collected 20 sewing machines, numerous lawn mowers and an unbelievable number of old tools and haberdashery, thank you to everybody who has been involved.

The Books abroad project is gathering momentum as support is coming in from schools and the public.

This coming week Thursday 27th May 2021 our speaker this week will be Amy Thomson who will be speaking about the Balbirnie Park Youth Project with the meeting being held on ZOOM at 1pm

Sunday past 23rd May 2021 The Muirhead Outreach Project whom we supported at Christmas were organising a sponsored Muirhead Mile where the planned route would be following the riverside route. We had to watch out for the QR code scavenger clues! Collect the answers to eventually get our ice-cream! Iain Oates, Chantal Mrimi, Wilna Roger, Anne and Geoff Sampson supported the event on behalf of Rotary.
