On Thursday 11thFebruary 2021 President Geoff Sampson welcomed 36 guests including 20 club Rotarians and guest entertainer Cammy Young and 15 others including Rotary Club of Cowdenbeath President Yolanda Hilton and Rotarian John Calder from the Rotary Club of Banff to this evening meeting held by ZOOM.

Three apologies for non-attendance were received.

Our speaker entertainer this week was 23-year-old magician Cammy Young Fife’s local sensation who appeared on last year’s Britain’s Got Talent TV programme, He become an internet hit after posting videos of some rather impressive tricks online.

Cammy who is a member of Edinburgh Magic Circle says his real inspiration has always been his dad who used to be a magician and when he saw photos and video clips of his Dad performing for people he then always wanted to do the same. “Everyone has their first start-up kit, so he started practising and he realised he was doing well at family parties and at school. He gave up for a few years and then after watching Penn and Teller when he was about 14, he became addicted and has been ever since.” He entertains at Luxury Weddings, Corporate and Stage entertainment – and was Edinburgh Close-up magician of the year in 2018. Since the Pandemic he has developed his skills to entertain as he did with us on ZOOM, where he involved many Rotarians and guests with a variety of card tricks finishing up with the bottle and glass trick appearing from cylindrical containers. All in all, a thoroughly entertaining and fun evening from an extremely talented local man.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Jim Boyd.

At the meeting we advised Rotarian John Calder from the Rotary Club of Banff that we would give a donation of £100 to their club’s Ghanaian project. John had given us a talk back in September.

On Tuesday 23rd February will be Rotary Day which will be the 116th anniversary of the founding of Rotary by Paul Harris.

We as a club are focusing on an Old Tools and Sewing machines project. Lead Rotarian Iain Oates (phone 07423 195333) in conjunction with The Ecology Centre at Kinghorn’s Tool Shed who have been refurbishing old tools donated by the public and, with the help of the charities Tools for Self-Reliance and the Global Concerns Trust, are shipped out to people with physical disabilities in Malawi. Anybody who have Old Tools or Singer Sewing machines would you please be good enough to let us know and we will gladly collect from you. Contact can be made through our Facebook page or if you know a Rotarian please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking for collection by the end of February.
