Lunch time meeting - ZOOM Meeting our speaker this week is Alistair Robb District 1010 Governor speaking about the Rotary Structure

Thu, Oct 1st 2020 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

On Thursday 1st October 2020 President Geoff Sampson welcomed 16 Club Rotarians, guest speaker our District 1010 Governor Alistair Robb, Rotarian Pamela Taylor from the Rotary Club of Buckhaven and Methil and soon to be inducted David and Beverley Cooper to this lunch time meeting held by ZOOM.

One Rotarian apologised for non-attendance.

Our speaker this week was friend of our club, District 1010 Governor Alistair Robb who is a member and founder member of the Rotary Club of Buckhaven and Methil. Alistair had been asked to give a talk on the structure of Rotary. Since taking over as District Governor Alistair has been looking at the structure in District 1010 and with their being 89 clubs in our District and well over 80 District positions to fill many of which were duplicated because of the size of the area a restructure was thought appropriate. The COVID 19 pandemic has seen clubs and District using technology in particular ZOOM and this has proven beneficial from the savings on time, travel, and environment. No need to travel long distances and cutting out 4- 5 hours of travelling time for a two-hour meeting. A cost saving as Petrol would not be required and thus reducing pollution. Rotarians may be more interested in taking up a District position based on this. Clubs have been rethinking future meetings, previously meetings with meals and a speaker, but now no meals and reducing the number of meetings and types. Rotary has thus and for the future become more affordable. Many clubs are becoming more involved in Community projects and although Rotary clubs were originally made up of Business leaders, clubs have been introducing active community people who are also key to supporting Rotary goals.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by SVP Brian Johnson.

This was an opportune time for us to be given a talk about the structure of Rotary as after the talk President Geoff Sampson had much pleasure of inducting two New Rotarians husband and wife David and Beverley Cooper into membership of Rotary. Both David and Beverley who are presently heavily involved with Friends of Riverside Park will be welcome additions to the club

This coming week Thursday 8th October 2020 at 1pm on ZOOM we will be given a talk by Linsey Proctor from Fife Gingerbread who are a voluntary sector organisation that provides information, advice and support service to lone parents and families in need all over Fife. Also at this meeting Scott Galloway will be inducted into membership of our club.

The Rotary vote of thanks will be given by President Geoff Sampson.

If you were interested in supporting the community and international projects get in touch by Private message on The Rotary Club of Glenrothes Facebook page. You will be made most welcome[GS1] .
