On Thursday 20th February 2020 President Ewen Macdonald welcomed 14 Club Rotarians and 20 guests to this our lunch time meeting, which was held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes.
On reception, this week was Geoff Sampson and Jack Dempsey who said grace.
This week we heard recitals from the winning pupils from the Primary Schools of Carleton, Collydean, Markinch, Pitcoudie, Rimbleton and Thornton as they participated in the Final of the Rotary Primary Schools Scots Poetry Competition organised by lead Rotarian's Chris Grist and Iain Oates who were competing for the Iain Chalmers Quaich With excellent renditions and judging being made by the Rotarian's present based on memory, understanding and presentation Layla Reid from Collydean being the overall winner. President Ewen Macdonald presented the pupils with certificates of participation and the winner the 'Ian Chalmers'. Quaich.
On Wednesday 19th February the young Artist competition was held at Auchmuty High School with the 3 high schools showcasing their artistic talent with 17 pupils competing in the competition of Higher and advanced Higher work, displaying some amazing talent and creativity. The competition was judged by Pat Beveridge and Dorothy Wyllie. Both judges praised all the students who presented work today. In their opinion the standard was excellent, and they praised the width, breadth and creativity in the AH categories. The overall winner and young Artist of the year is Emma Thomson from Glenrothes High School.

On Thursday evening 20th February The Primary School Quiz was held at Auchmuty High School. Another big event in our calendar where the local primary schools competed in the annual Rotary quiz. Fantastic night for the Annual Primary Schools competition. With 14 schools being represented (possibly the best response we have had) and a packed audience of parents, relatives and teachers the competition organised by lead Rotarian, IPP Anne Sampson was a nail biter all the way to the last round with St Paul's winning at the last gasp with Pitteuchar West second and Collydean in third spot. Both St. Paul's and Pitteuchar West go through to the District 1010 finals on 26th March at Donibristle Primary school. Our thanks to Auchmuty High School for hosting the event and providing equipment, pencils and water for the contestants.

This coming week’s meeting on Thursday 27th February 2020 will be an evening meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel Glenrothes meeting at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. Our speaker is Local author Alice Soper who has published her first book. Alice is a well-known figure in Kirkcaldy. She will speak about her book "The Piper of Tobruk" which is about Pipe Major Robert Roy, MBE, DCM, of The Black Watch who became known as The Piper of Tobruk
