This week the club was visited by Robert Tait, a pilot with the Scottish Air Ambulance Service based in Aberdeen.
Robert is a pilot on the fixed wing Kingair Aircraft which is capable of flying at 300mph at high altitude which allows more flexibility and speedier response than the helicopters also used by the service. Part of NHS Scotland it is the only government-funded air ambulance service in the UK.
One of the major functions of the aircraft is the transfer of patients from the islands and to hospitals providing specialist facilities.
Robert gave an insight in to the procedure carried out when the aircraft is deployed and gave examples of some of the missions he has been involved in. One of the aircrafts regular flights is to Sumburgh Airport on the Shetland Isles which is not an easy runway to land on!
Robert is very proud to carry out his role in helping patients who require to use the service.
