This week we welcomed Glyn Morris and Kevin Anderson who spoke passionately about SurfABLE Scotland.
Led by local accessibility charity, Friendly Access, and established in 2017, SurfABLE Scotland became Scotland’s first surf therapy project, providing surf adventure and life-changing experiences to all, in particular to those who feel excluded as a result of disability. For some, this may be their only sporting activity.
Operating along the Moray Firth, SurfABLE Scotland is apparently the most northerly surf therapy project in the world. The group proudly developed and led Scotland’s first Para Surf National Team in the World Championships in California and this was evidenced in a short video that was shared with members.
Glyn and Kevin spoke passionately about their personal involvement with the group and its achievements to date. They have 1 paid part-time member of staff who is supported by 20 volunteers. They further commented that they move forward in 2024 fully focused on building Scotland’s first dedicated surf therapy centre, which will include “Changing Places Toilets” based at Lossiemouth.
