Action for Children – represented by Sheila Erskine, Service Manager and Fraser Cameron, Young Persons’ Assistant.
Sheila gave a brief summary of what the charity Action for Children does and how they deliver services.
Action for Children works to improve life for children in the UK. Their vision is that every child and young person has a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive. They put children at the heart of everything they do. That includes their mission and values.
Fraser’s role is to act as a peer champion through working closely with the young people, listening to them and helping them to have a voice in their support programme.
Action for Children describes itself as a family, supporting young people, parents, families and communities at the time of their need and enables meetings with those who have benefitted from the system in the past.
More than 600,000 children and families across the UK benefit from their services and their essential funding comes from a range of sources such as tendering for contracts, lottery funding, government and local authority funding for specific services and donations.
Action for Children have also created a digital offer that is an accredited tool to support young people with problem solving, building capacity, dealing with issues and the healing experience.
They support family activities, parental involvement, empowering and enabling people to take control of their own lives and also, importantly, encourage young people to have a voice in designing services through their own experiences.
Sheila and Fraser answered questions from club members at the end of the session and their commitment and enthusiasm for their work and support to these young people and their families was evident.
