Rotary Elgin members enjoy getting out into the community and organise various activities throughout the year that benefit those who live in the area. The Community team members are responsible for the following
FLOWER BEDS
From early summer through to mid October Rotary Elgin supports the maintenance of the flower beds at the western approach to Elgin and this year was no exception. The team of volunteer Rotarians did a fantastic job keeping the weeds down and the plants looking lovely.
Rotary Elgin also supports the maintenance of a large flower bed in the square in Lossiemouth, dedicated to former Rotarian Mike Mulholland. Pruning and removal of old plants will take place in the new year and it is hoped we can add some new planting to enhance this large and prominent flower bed.
WINTER ENTERTAINMENT
Each year, the community team co-ordinate a programme of entertainment for 9 Care Homes and residential facilities in Elgin. The programme runs from October to March and those monthly sessions are warmly appreciated by the residents. At the end of the season, an evening is organised to say “thank you” to the wonderful entertainers who give their time so generously.
CARING AT CHRISTMAS COLLECTIONS
One of the favourite times of the year is when we don our yellow tabards and get out into the community to collect for deserving causes. This year we will be collecting for groups in Burghead, Lossiemouth, Elgin, Lhanbryde and Buckie and a list of collection points and dates are on the website. These groups provide warm spaces and lunches for those in their community who need this support. Some of the funds also goes to Rotary’s own charity.
