The weather forecast promised dry and sunny all day, and it was, apart from from at the start when it poured down for about half an hour! Other than that, the conditions were good, though a few short sections of the route had overgrown quite a lot, so a few runners suffered scratches to their legs, and one fell and incurred abrasions, needing some minor first aid by our President at the finish.
This year,Wensleydale School were unable to let us use the main hall and kitchens, but gave us access to the Gym instead, so we were unable to provide hot food as we usual do. However, our ladies provided a wonderful spread of sandwiches and cakes that were much appreciated, along with tea/coffee etc.
I would like to thank the RAYNET volunteers who manned the radio communications in the school and at the checkpoints, and all the Rotarians and friends who helped, either in the school or on the course. Thanks also to Rtns Richard Pennell and Chris Wheatley for the photos. The event has raised over £1,500 for local charities and good causes.
We received many compliments and no complaints, so I expect we will organise another Saunter in September 2024, exact date to be decided.
