James Herriot Run Report 2017

There was a record entry of 400 for this year's James Herriot Country Trail Run, with 351 actualling running on the day.

For the first time ever, entries were approaching our stated maximum of 350 a few days before the race, so we posted warning of this on the website before closing entries a day early and declared there could me no entries on the day. Our main concern was parking space but we decided we could extend that to accomodate a few more cars, so we ended up accepting 400 entries, though "only" 351 turned up on the day - still a record! A new system of parking seemed to work well, though there was the usual queue of cars half an hour before the start, and everyone was through registration in time.

The weather was near perfect for running, being mild with a light breeze and only occasional light showers. One person sprained his ankle on the steep descent from Collier Gate but declined a lift and elected to walk back by a shortcut. Another had a grazed knee dressed by our doctor at the First Aid tent. There were no other casualties.

Harrogate Harriers brought a very strong team and won all three team trophies- the first time one club has managed this!

The photos on this page are a selection taken at various parts of the course. 3/8/17 I have now received some photos taken at the Finish and added them to the carousel on this page. You may find switching to the Thumbnail version will be helpful.

More photos can be found at Gate 8 Photos.

Also Black Hill Photos and Preparation Photos (This latter mainly of interest to Rotarians and helpers) and Gate 13 photos. Thanks to Dave & Matt Spashett, Jenny Blakeley, Howard Binks and Chris Wheatley.

12/8/17 I have just received yet more excellent photos but I can't add them all to the already large number on the site. However,if anyone would like originals of themselves, I will endeavour to find good ones of them if they send me their race number.

A big thank you to Jim Wight, James Herriot's son, who again very kindly came to start the race and present the prizes.

Another big thank you to Geoff Kensett and the team from Swaledale Roadrunners who managed the finish and time-keeping in a very professional way, as usual- something we Rotarians could not have done ourselves.

Thank you to all the clubs and individuals who took part. We hope you enjoyed it and want to return! We will have raised around £4,000 for charities and local deserving causes.

Next year the race will again be run on the last Sunday of July, 29th July 2018

Finally, thank you to our sponsors, The Walking Shop in Leyburn and, through them, CamelBak and Lowe Alpine for providing the prizes for the first three men overall and first three ladies overall
