Wensleydale Wander 2015 Report

This year's Wensleydale Wander was again well supported and the weather was kind apart from a strong westerly wind, particularly on the higher ground.

There were 324 entries but only 281 walker started. Incredibly, this is exactly the same number of starters as in both 2013 and 2014!! 279 finished with 2 retiring ar one of the later checkpoints. All returned to Wensleydale School within the stipulated 8 hours, thereby pleasing both the sweepers and the kitchen volunteers waiting to feed them!

Steve Brown from Colburn, was first home on the short route in 86 minutes, followed by Jonny Cartwright, Huddersfield, and Paul Dennison, Ilkley.

Ashleigh Grailey, of Huddersfield, was first lady home on the short route in 104 mins, followed by Charlotte Wardle of Patrick Brompton and Anne Middleton of Huddersfield.

Martin Huddleston, of Huddersfield, was first home on the long route in 2hr 56 min, Derek Parrington, of Halifax finishing with him in the same time (1 minute faster than last year!). Third home was Martin Randall of Darlington in 3hr 3min (2min faster than last year, when he was second!)

First Lady home on the long route was Emily Ledder, of Mirfield with Helen Mann of Rotherham in the same time of 3hr 43min. Third was Rowan Booth of Ulceby in 3hr 59min.

The event was well supported by the Wensleydale branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research who will be the main beneficiaries of the Wander this year. They are very grateful for the generous donations given by the walkers in the hall of Wensleydale school. I will post the final amount raised when this has been counted.

Next year's Wensleydale Wander is scheduled for Saturday 9th April 2016. We hope to see you then!
