The 2014 project referred below was successfully completed in 2016 and formally signed off after careful auditing in 2017. Given the success of this earlier project, in 2016, in consultation with the Rotary club of Kilifi, the Rotary Club of Eynsham decided to raise funds for a further schools toilet project in Kilifi. Again, we organised a consortium of clubs ( Eynsham, Oxford Spires, Witney, Faringdon, Aylsham and Ipswich) to commit sufficient funds that would allow the Kilifi Rotary Club to apply for further funds from the Rotary Foundation (referred to as a Global Grant) so that they could build latrines in some more schools. This grant was approved in August 2018 and further details are provided here.
In August 2014, the Rotary Clubs of Eynsham, Oxford Spires, Bicester, Witney, Faringdon and Didcot received a grant from the Rotary Foundation to construct latrine blocks in five schools in Kilifi, Kenya. This project was completed in January 2016 and details are provided here.
A project, funded by the Rotary Club of Eynsham, for the provision of clean water to 5 schools in the Kilifi District of Kenya, was completed at the end of 2012. Details are provided here.
Eynsham Rotary Club regularly donates towards Rotary International's continuing efforts to rid the world of polio.
Although polio has not been seen in Great Britain and Ireland for many years, it is vital that we continue our efforts to eliminate the disease worldwide in order that it can never return. Rotary clubs in Great Britain and Ireland have so far donated over £20 million (£24 million) to End Polio Now.
Since Rotary took up the challenge to eradicate polio in 1979 the organisation has raised over $250 million and polio is now endemic in only 3 countries in the world. We continue to fund raise to complete the eradication of this crippling disease.
Pictured below is Past President Harold Jerred who helped to man a display at the Eynsham Carnival where we had a Shelterbox. Eynsham Rotary Club regularly donates funds to buy Shelterboxes to help with disasters that arise around the world. For example, we have funded shelterboxes for the Philipines cyclone disaster, the Haiti earthquake and the Equador earthquake.
