President Kathryn (2017-18) has long developed links with Nepal, having visited the country several times. On her last visit and with the assistance of RC Kathmandu, Kathryn visited the HEAD school for partially sighted youngsters and was touched by how they were struggling to learn basic skills so that they could live more independant lives.
As a project Aurora is raising money to purchase a braille printer for the school, which will provide income as well as training for the pupils. In the interim members have obtained essential items for the pupils such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks and pants, small toys, books and writing materials and a local ladies knitting group donated hand-made scarves and hats. 12 cases of items were shipped to Nepal late in 2017.
This will be an on-going project for 2018
UPDATE APRIL 2018
Now HEAD Nepal switch from Desktop Computer to Laptop computer for ICT base special computer training for children with visual and physical impaired children residing in HEAD Vision and Enable Home. On the past days HEAD Nepal used to conduct training through Assembled Desktop computer which in not too bad in overall performance but due to the unstable power system and most of the time low voltage problem Desktop are now very hard to use. From last 5 month we are using stand alone solar back up system so we are not using hydropower electricity and for that Laptop computer is advantage for us which has the low power consumption. In the other, we have to move according to the latest technology so that we can provide the latest knowledge of technology compete to the world.
From now on 8 laptops (Windows 10 OS, 4 GB Ram, 1 TB Hard Drive) will be used for special computer training in regular basis. This will not create power break in Solar back up system and we can run smooth class as according to our routine.
For all this we must say Thank you Very much to #Kathryn #Gregory ( President of Melton Aurora Rotary Club London UK.) for initiation and Coordination to #Melton #Aurora #Rotary #Club #London #UK for supporting these 8 laptop for educational development of the children with disabilities residing at Head Vision Home and Head
