Walking for Water is about moving toward a future in which all children have close access to safe drinking water, good sanitation and sufficient understanding about hygiene for healthy living.
The Aqua for All Foundation and its partners are working to improve this situation. Together with NGOs, Rotary Clubs, water companies and the commercial sector, we organise the annual International Walking for Water Campaign. Walks usually take place in March/April, during the weeks around UN World Water Day (22 March), when worldwide attention is sought for the problems around water and sanitation.
Walking for Water is an awareness and fundraising initiative. School children aged 10-15 are sponsored by friends and family to walk 6 kilometres while carrying 6 litres of water in a backpack. Kids learn about global water issues, and raise funds to help solve them. Organise your own event!
Is access to water still a big problem? Unfortunately yes. Although progress has been made, there are still around 750 million people in the world without access to safe drinking water, and 2.4 billion without access to a toilet!
