Members of the Bury Abbey Rotary Club were thrilled to attend the Suffolk Community Award ceremony held at The Food Museum in Stowmarket on September 23rd. The evening was a momentous occasion as the club was honoured with the prestigious Event Organiser of the Year award for their outstanding Classic Car Show.
The award, presented by Larking Gower, included a trophy, a certificate, and a £50 prize, recognizing the club's dedication and hard work in organising this beloved community event. Throughout the evening, a total of seventeen awards were presented, celebrating the achievements of young people, community members, and volunteers who have made significant contributions to the region.
Mark Murphy MBE served as the compere for the event, engaging the audience with interviews, including a spotlight on Phil Peters, the co-ordinator of the Classic Car Show. This annual event, held in the picturesque grounds of Culford School near Bury St Edmunds, has become a staple in the community, attracting car enthusiasts and families alike.
Now in its 11th year, the Classic Car Show has successfully raised over £200,000 for local charities, making a meaningful impact on the lives of many in the area. This year’s recognition marks a significant milestone for the Rotary Club of Bury St Edmunds Abbey, as it is the first time they have received a Suffolk Community Award.
