Our Latest Visit to the Netherlands October 2026

A group of 12 Rotarians visited with our partner Club in Tiel on 17-19th October 2026

12 Rotarians and Partners visited our friends in Tiel over the weekend. We enjoyed a very full and interesting programme , the highlight of which was a visit to Arnhem and the surrounding area, the site of the Operation Market Garden in September 1944 when allied forces attempted to liberate  the city of Arnhem from German Occupation. The action was not sucessful, as Arnhem remained in enemy hands, however a large tract of the Netherlands was liberated . The story is full of instances of incredible courage and personal sacrifice, on the part of the Allied Forces and the Dutch Civilians who had been surviving very difficult conditions during the occupation a very thought provoking and emotional day.  We had an amazing guide from the organisation Liberation Routes Europe  We also spent some lovely social time over dinner on Saturday evening and lunch on Sunday , visited a delightful handmade glass workshop in the town of Leerdam and , re commected with our Dutch Rotary Colleagues who are always so hospitable.
