President Brian McKay opened the event, held at CYP Bridgend, by saying a few words of welcome and explained that the purpose of the event was to bring together a number of community based groups so that we could all have a bit of fun, but more importantly get to know each other and thereby learn how we might all help each other in the future. Brian also acted as Quizmaster on the night and as usual, his few attempts at humour were met with groans of varying volumes.
The Quiz took the form of 8 x 10 Question rounds and a Scottish Place Name Anagram Solver, which ran through the evening, acting as a tie-breaker. In the event, the tie-breaker was not required as a clear winner emerged at the end of the night. Also, we had a 9th round up our sleeves and everyone had enjoyed themselves so much, that they all wanted to play the extra round. In the end, the winners were Callander Ramblers with a total of 79 points, 11 clear of the runners-up - Callander U3A. Claims that for the Ramblers it had been a 'walk in the park', were met with loud groans.
The wooden spoon went to Callander Ladies Circle, but only just, with Callander Rotary and Killin Mountain Rescue Team only a few points ahead.
The event proved to be a great success and will, in all liklihood be repeated, perhaps on an annual basis.
We would like to thank all the groups who took part (listed below) and CYP whose facilities were ideal for the event. (Their chips, by the way, were amazing.)
A special mention should be made to President Elect, Jen Shearer, whose idea this was in the first place. Jen has been working on this for some time and credit goes to her and her fellow Marketing Committee members (especially Derek House) for pulling this off.
