Ben Ledi Walk - 1st June 2013

Over 140 people, young and old, took part in this year's Ben Ledi Walk.  The day started in bright sunshine and remained that way for a few hours.  However, the clouds and rain swept in around noon and later starters and folks manning the hill all day got a bit wet.  All worth it though as this event always raises significant sums for charity.  At this stage, it's too early to say how much was raised in total, but it is certainly well beyond last year's figures.  (Keep an eye out for an update once all the money is in.)

Running (literally) alongside this year's event was a Hill Race organised by Skidaddle.  Using the same course as the walkers the winner took just under an hour.  (Most walkers were taking 2 hours and more just to get to the top.)  You don't have to be mad to be a hill runner ..... but it helps.

As ever, a big thank you to the Killin Mountain Rescue Team whose members were out in large numbers to ensure all went well on the day.  Congratulations too to Rotarian Richard Cooper whose organisatiuon of the event was, as ever, tremendous.

Coffee Morning - 4th May

A highly successful Coffee Morning was held in the Kirk Hall in Callander today.  A new innovation this year was to extend the event to 1 pm with an offering of home made soup and bread from 12 noon onwards.  This proved highly popular and we will almost certainly repeat it next year.  This event is always used to raise funds for Rotary Foundation and this year we raised over 650.  A big thank you to all the members who worked so hard and to all those who came and enjoyed our coffee, cakes and soup.

Bottle Stall - 1st April 2013

A mix of weather today didn't deter Members from coming out nor residents of and visitors to Callander from taking their chance at our Bottle Stall.  With Rotarian Jen Shearer dressed as the Easter Bunny and giving away tiny chocolate eggs, the day was a great success.  We raised over 600 which will go towards our contribution to a District project designed to build Sand Dams in Kenya. 

Scatter Week - Week Starting 11th March

A number of our members visited other Rotary Clubs around the District.  Not only a chance to enjoy good fellowship, but also an opportunity to pick up a few tips from the way other Clubs do things.

Guest Night - 5th March 2013

Scott Martin from Deanston Distellery gave us a talk about the distillery and associated whisky brands.  Just as importantlt Scott brought along a few samples for members to try.  A great night of entertainment and education, matched only by the humour (some deliberate, some whisky induced) of the Vote of Thanks given by Bill Sutherland.

Burns Supper - 26th January 2013

An event the whole club always looks forward to.  Around 80 members and their guests attended this year's event and were entertained by some excellent speakers.  Our thanks go to Bridge of Alland & Dunblane Rotary Club as all of our male speakers are members there.  The Address to the Haggis was given by Laurie Orr, Graham Houston gave the Immortal Memory and an excellent and never-to-be-forgotten recitation of Tam O'Shanter.  Eric Abell proposed the Toast to the Lasses and the response was given by Mhairi Stewart.  Ken Roberts gave us a couple of songs (and a couple of jokes), before leading the company in a few more Burns songs.  Our piper for the evening was Ross Walker who performed wonderfully well.

Bag-Packing - 30th and 31st December 2012

Thanks to the co-operation of Co-op Manager, Patrick Duffy and his staff, we once again offered to pack Co-op customers' bags as they filled up their larders and drinks cabinets for the New Year festivities.  We raised over 1,000 and these will go to a variety of local causes.

Christmas Guest Night - 18th December 2012

A great night of fun and jollification. Members' partners and friends enjoyed an evening of good food and fellowship.  Cheques were presented to a number of organisations out of funds raised from the Ben Ledi Walk and Am-Am Golf event.  For fun, we held a Fancy Hat competition and there were some beauties on display.  The evening was completed with a few songs from local folk band brac'linn
