River Monitoring Group

We organise a team of citizen scientists to monitor the quality of our local river water.

River Hiz and Oughton join up

Our citizen science group is a community group sponsored by Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse

Every month we measure the levels of nitrates and phosphates in the Oughton, Purwell and Hiz.

You can see the results here

We also monitor the riverflies who live in the river gravels- they are the canaries of the river health.

Partners: Herts & Middlesex Wildife Trust, Upper Bedford Ouse Catchment Partnership, NHC, RiverHiz Conservation Group.
