Wed, Jun 3rd 2026 at 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Juli is a member of Bradford Bronte and reviewed our plans for next year which will be shown under the different What We Do sections from 1 July. Juli's comments are detailed below.

Assistant Governor's Visit Reflection

Having now had the pleasure of visiting Bradford Blaize today, I would like to add a personal reflection to my Assembly comments.

What struck me immediately was the warmth of the welcome I received from members. Whilst the Assembly Report speaks of fellowship, friendship and support, it was evident that these are not simply words on a page but values that are lived and demonstrated within the club.

I was particularly impressed by the genuine care members showed for one another. There was a quiet attentiveness and kindness that spoke of friendships built over many years. Equally noticeable was the good humour around the room. One member in particular could easily have pursued a second career in stand-up comedy, and laughter seemed never far away.

Perhaps what surprised me most was how different the atmosphere felt from the stereotype sometimes associated with long-established clubs. The club retains its traditions and operates with remarkable efficiency, yet there is a relaxed and welcoming spirit which makes it immediately accessible to visitors and guests.

The Assembly Report records an average age of 80.6 years. Having spent time with members, I can only conclude that somebody has forgotten to tell the club. The energy, enthusiasm and programme of activity planned for the coming year suggest a club that remains curious, engaged and very much alive.

I was also delighted to learn of the forthcoming Bradford Beck walk in August and to have the opportunity to connect members with Food Savers for lunch afterwards. This feels like exactly the sort of community connection that Rotary does so well – bringing people, ideas and organisations together in ways that strengthen the wider community.

Bradford Blaize should be proud not only of what it does, but of how it does it. The club's greatest asset is not simply its projects or fundraising achievements, but the culture of friendship, humour, care and service that its members have built together over many years.
