This charity, promoted by Kevin Morley from Chesterfield, looks after children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Rather than putting children in an orphanage it concentrates on helping family members look after them.

Crown Green Bowling Tournament

Carol Singing

Roy Tate organised a group of Rotarians and wives to visit several restaurants to undertake carol singing and collect funds for Bradford Blaize charities. £363.24 was raised for local charities.

Blaize have supported this charity from it's inception in 2015. Last year we funded them to set up a Micro Loan scheme. Kevin updated us on the progress of the work being done in Ethiopia following which we sent another £1,000 to the loan scheme.

Lunch at the Wetherby Whaler Guiseley

Speaker Finder Roy Tate organised a lunch at the Wetherby Whaler restaurant in Guiseley. This was followed by the club singing carols as practice for their tour of 4 local restaurants on 15 December.

------Sponsored Walk from Ripon Cathedral to Bradford Cathedral------ Raises £2,100

President Robert Allan led a team of walkers from Ripon Cathedral to Bradford Cathedral on a sponsored walk with all funds going to the Bradford Metropolitan Foodbank. The walkers raised £2,100.

Environmentally Enhanced Tree Planting

Ken organised with Ian Butterfield of Yorgreen CIC for club members to plant more than 100 trees complete with environmentally friendly shrouds that decay over 5 years.

R.I.P. Alan Morrell 25-11-1940 to 18-1-2023

Members attended the funeral of Rotarian Alan Morrell at Nab Wood Crematorium followed by a wake at Northcliffe Golf Club.

275 Dictionaries 4 Life Presented to Local Schools

28th Annual Charity Golf Competition at Ilkley Golf Club

The Rotary Club of Bradford Blaize held their 28th Annual Charity Golf Competition at Ilkley Golf Club. The total raised for charity since inception is £175,000.

Tree Planting

Blaize members undertook their annual tree planting exercise at Lower Heights Farm, Horn Lane, Silsden Moor, BD20 9HW. 500 trees were planted and as usual the ground conditions were very muddy. This is the 7th such planting in six years.

Free Blood Pressure Testing at Boots in The Broadway Bradford

Blaize, together with St John Ambulance and the Stroke Association, provided free blood pressure tests in The Broadway Centre in Bradford from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Walking Weekend at Church Stretton

Tree planting in Addingham

Following on from the planting earlier in the year to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee club members again planted trees on behalf of the Forest of Bradford.

Blaize take 60 children to Kids Out at Lightwater Valley

This year we were able to find funding to take 60 disadvantaged children from Lister Primary School to the Rotary organised Kids Out at Lightwater Valley.

Environment Officer Alan Morrell suggested that we should plant some trees in conjunction with the Forest of Bradford initiative. President John Watson said this would be a good memento for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The annual Presidents' Hello/Goodbye (when we traditionally celebrate the handover of office from one President to another) was a barbecue held at Alan and Marjorie's home.

Sponsored Walk in Aid of Marie Curie Hospice and Other Charities

R. Allan organised a long distance sponsored walk around the Cleveland Way. The main thrust of the walk was to raise money for Marie Curie Bradford Hospice but they raised more money than expected so some will go to other causes.

On 28.3.12 and 29.3.12 Blaize members aided by Ambassadorial Scholars Whitney Hough and Mizuki Takashi collected for the local Marie Curie Hospice at Tesco on Canal Road in Bradford.
