Saltergate Children's Home Ethiopia

This charity, promoted by Kevin Morley from Chesterfield, looks after children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Rather than putting children in an orphanage it concentrates on helping family members look after them.

The 4 main tenents of Saltergate are: -

1. Each child must be looked after by family member.

2. The organisation is not an orphanage but rather a support system for children to remain in some form of family unit.

3. Those helped must work to independence.

4. Every penny the charity raises goes to children. Any running costs are met by Kevin and the other trustees personally.

Initially the charity concentrated purely on ensuring the children were fed, dressed and schooled. But as it has matured it also now encourages schemes to allow the families looking after the children to be self supporting by financing through micro loans the likes of shops, beauty salons, sewing machines, agricultural and other projects.

The photographs show some of the recent successes of the charity.
