Barrie Birch

Barrie showed an Alec Clifton-Taylor video from his series "Another 6 English Towns. This episode dealt with Sandwich in Kent. One of the original Cinque Ports Sandwich is now landlocked as the great Stour Estuary silted up in the 15th century. Clifton-Taylor went around the town examining the old buildings dating back to the wooden structures of the medieval period all the way up to Victorian ones. The early houses were made of timber and flint but later on various types of brick were used. As usual he was quick to praise as well as to find fault when he thought the arcitecture was wrong or badly undertaken.
