Crocus Planting at Bowling Park Primary School

Fri, Nov 25th 2016 at 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

After being snowed off on the 18th of September A few Blaize members were finally able to plant 5,000 crocus bulbs along with children from the school in as part of the End Polio Now Campaign

Club members visited Bowling Park Primary School to join with students and staff to plant 5,000 crocus bulbs. This was part of the campaign by Rotary to help End Polio Now throughout the world. The bulbs were purchased by the Rotary Club of Bradford Blaize to raise money for this campaign.

Rotary started immunising the world's children in 1985 under the End Polio Now campaign. In that year there were 1,000 new cases a year. This had dropped to 1,500 cases in 2008 and by last year this was further down to only 74 cases. But it is important to completely eradicate this awful disease so that it cannot make a come back to it's previous levels.

We would like to thank the Students, Headteacher, Teachers and Groundsman for joining in the campaign to plant purple crocuses. We hope you will enjoy them when they flower in spring.
