President Tony welcomed DG-Elect Robert Morphet to the meeting, and Speaker Finder Graham Robinson invited comments about the format of Conference from those who had attended the previous weekend.

All the Conference presentations had been rolled out in the main Conference Hall, and as a result, those attending had the opportunity to take part in all the many session. This had not been possible in previous years.

It was also noted that the displays of Shelter tents etc., in the open outside area, were a very worthwhile innovation. Some interesting points regarding the Programme were discussed, and DGE Robert was interested to hear Members views, and would be listening to those of other Clubs during the next few months

DGE Robert also took the opportunity to present a Paul Harris Certificate and Badge to Club Member John Barrow.  This followed the presentation at District Conference of District Paul Harris Fellowships being awarded to both John Barrow and Marion Le Pla (of Bradford Soroptimist International), in connection with their work since 1994 for Bradford Schools Drug Prevention Initiative.

The Bradford Schools Drug Prevention Initiative (BSDPI) started in 1994 and is a joint Initiative between Soroptimist International of Bradford, Rotary International of Bradford and West Yorkshire Police. The aim of the Initiative is to motivate, reward and award schools which positively address the issues of drug, tobacco and alcohol misuse. The BSDPI Charter Award is extended to schools able to demonstrate an effective commitment to educating their pupils to a high level in drug prevention.

John was the first chair of the Bradford Schools Drug Prevention Initiative back in 1995/96 and continues to this day with his good work. Robert would also be attending a Soroptimist meeting in early November to make a similar presentation of the Certificate and Badge to Marion who is equally committed.

Our congratulation both to John and Marion on well earned honours, which reflect the years of selfless dedication to a worthwhile community project.
