Visit to the Police Operational Training Facility

A visit was arranged to the Police Operational Training facility at Carr Gate, Wakefield by Tony Ashton


Visitors from Bradford Blaize were shown around the extensive purpose built site by friendly and welcoming staff.

Superintendent David Lunn said The "A new era for Learning and Development in West Yorkshire Police began in March 2014 with the opening of brand new world class training facilities at Carr Gate near Wakefield. The time and effort that went into the design and development of Carr Gate has produced facilities that are second to none in meeting our needs and are amongst the very best not just in this country but across the world".

Carr Gate complex houses Firearms, Driver, Public Order, Crime, IT, Foundation and Leadership and Development training. Facilities at Carr Gate include state of the art firearms ranges, indoor and outdoor public order areas, a firearms skills house, driver manoeuvring area, classrooms, gym, and canteen.

Visitors were kindly escorted around the site by volunteer staff and receivied an excellent insight into current training methods from trainers within the department.
