Plans for the year:
Community and Environmental
John Waterhouse (Chair), Ken Senior (Environment), Derek O’Hearne, John Watson and Richard Bishop
1. Dictionaries. Once again, we will be presenting some 300 dictionaries to year five children, aged ten, in six inner-city Bradford primary schools in September. We will write each child’s name in the book to make it personal to them.
2. Rotary Children’s Fun Day. This replaces KidsOut. We are supporting visits in June from Beechcroft School in Thackley, a facility which provides education for young people with special needs assessments.
3. Environment. We will give a grant for tree-planting at a suitable venue.
4. Life Education Bradford, now known as CoramSCARF Yorkshire. We will continue to give grants to help this charity deliver specialised age-appropriate relationship, healthy life choices, including anti-drugs, education to children in the Bradford area and in West Yorkshire.
Youth and Vocational
John Waterhouse (Chair), John Barrow, Tony Emmott and M. Aslam
RYLA will not take place in July 2026 but we are sending two young people to a weeks course with Outward Bound at their centre at Aberdovey in mid-Wales.
If RYLA returns in 2027 as planned, we certainly will support it.
