For several years the Bradford 10 Group of Rotary Clubs have participated in the Rotary Technology Tournament. We have been honoured to have the Lord Mayor of Bradford and the Mayor of Keighley attend these events as they are scheduled to do again this year.
This exciting tournament first started in 1989 in Hertfordshire. Over the years it has grown in popularity as more and more Rotary clubs have provided the facility to their local schools and in recent years annual events have been held at 10 other locations in Yorkshire including Leeds, York, Harrogate, Skipton and Halifax.
The aim of the tournament is to generate enthusiasm in students for design and technology. We strongly believe that the country needs more young people to train in design and technology if we are to maintain or place in the world economy. The tournaments are designed to engender this strong interest by allowing students to have fun whilst competing in a contest to design and build a project that fits in with their studies under the National Curriculum. The contest operates on a similar style to the television programme
