Rotary Club of Bradford

Report on the work of the Club in Rotary Year 2023/24

This is an account of the community service given and money distributed to charities by the 25 members of the Rotary Club of Bradford during the Rotary year 2023/24 (1st July to 30th June inclusive).

Club Membership decline in recent years has been driven by changing social mores leading to a national decline in Lunchtime Rotary Clubs adding to the loss of long serving active members due to the effects of anno domini. Only two thirds of current members are able to actively engage in Club meetings and projects. But those remaining active members are proud of another very worthwhile year, as is reflected below. In order to continue our Lunchtime Rotary we are collaborating with the Rotary Club of Bingley by meeting jointly and hopefully this will extend our work in the community.

In total the club raised over £9,700 from public events, successful grant applications, other internal club fundraising and members donations. A lot of the money that we have raised came from events open to non-members and/or the general public.

Using the funds we have raised we have actually dispersed over £8,600

of which over 80% went to Bradford charities. (NB. Our audited accounts are published later.)

Community, Youth, Vocational & Environmental Service work in Bradford

This last Rotary Year we………………….

  • Successfully obtained a Rotary District Foundation Grant and gave £2,000 to the ‘Better Lives’ Bradford NHS Trust Charity which aims to enhance the lives of local patients, staff and volunteers being treated, or working in, the Bradford health sector.

  • Continued supervision of our Interact Club (introducing Rotary ideals to the young) as they continued their service to help the community. Their work is not included here.

  • Sponsored a local inner City school student to attend a Rotary Youth Leadership training event, including the provision of transport to and from the distant venue.

  • Continued to be involved with local schools; in total this year two schools benefitted from our involvement and/or financial donations.

  • Organised and staffed two Supermarket Collections to raise funds from local people and at the same time to promote the work and image of Rotary.

  • Organised a well-attended public lecture as a means of raising money for charity.

  • Provided financial support to some 14 charities working in the Bradford District.

  • Collaborated with another Rotary Club in making up Christmas ‘Shoe Box’ presents.

  • Staffed an environmental litter pick prior to Remembrance Day at Undercliffe Cemetery.

  • Attended and participated in two Civic Remembrance Day events.

Below is a breakdown of how we dispersed our charitable donations this last year.
