Members were sad to learn that Alan had lost his struggle for life and nobody could have fought harder to overcome his difficulties. The encouragement and support from his dear wife, Marj, will have been invaluable. We send our heartfelt sympathy to her and all the family. Alan joined Bradford Rotary Club in 2010 and soon made his mark. His special interest was youth work, and especially public speaking. Alan became our Youth Lead, being instrumental in organising very successful Youth Speak competitions for secondary schools in the Bradford area. Arrangements have been made for this work to continue as a tribute to Alan. He was also involved in the formation and helped to look after our two Interact Clubs, Bradford Grammar School and Carlton Bolling. [Photos; Charter inauguration day at BGS interact Club in May 2016] Alan was President 2015-16, a model of ‘Service above Self’ as a Rotarian and will be very sadly missed by so many. He was involved in everything we do and awarded a PHF in 2017, surely a well-deserved honour. Other interests where his initiative and leadership shone through were the Venture Scouts and Methodist Church. His funeral is at Baildon Methodist Church on Tuesday 30th May, where a collection takes place for Shelter Box and Action for Children.
