Colin was brought up on an isolated Dales farm in Yorkshire, studied catering at Scarborough College and then got a job locally at Bolton castle in Wendsleydale, where he applied for a role as a junior cook in the Royal Household.
Colin spent five happy years cooking for and travelling with the Royal Household. He sailed on the Royal Yacht during Cowes week and as well as trips to Aberdeen, the isles of Skye, Mull and may more small islands. He also worked at the late Queen Mother's home at the Castle of Mey.
But of all the royal addresses, Balmoral was his favourite because the royals would be in the grounds and visit the kitchens. He will recount how the Queen loved to join staff fancy dress parties, and judge the competitions, one of which Colin won with a Loch Ness monster outfit.
Colin's biggest thrill was preparing the magnificent state banquets and wonderful food, all served on gold plates. Of the many experiences he had, one of the greatest was to receive Christmas presents from the Queen each year, and to dance alongside her at Balmoral staff Christmas parties.
