Tours start from the Old Rectory (dbs managed offices) car park opposite the Forge Inn on Kirby Road, Glenfield LE3 8DG where you will be met by a steward wearing a yellow hi viz jacket.
Please wear stout shoes or walking boots and be aware that the tunnel is cold. Bring a torch, for although we have basic lighting in the tunnel, in order to see more detail your own torch would be an advantage.
We cross the road by the Forge Inn and proceed along Barrows Lane to the junction with the track bed of the Leicester Swanington Railway, which we then follow to the crossing point on Station Road opposite Stephenson Court.
At the end of Stephenson Court we enter the cutting leading to the tunnel from where we take you 400 yards in, to the first of the main excavation shafts.
The guides will explain details about the history of the tunnel, its construction and subsequent use, along with a number of stories which have come down to us over the years.
