A Prevention Programme for "Vulnerable & At Risk"

Help us purchase a vehicle to transport our children

Masizame and its loyal staff have been serving the community in protecting the vulnerable children of this region since 1992. has not only survived but has grown and flourished as a community based project.

The children that come into the Masizame Shelter or Drop-In are victims of a society that has failed them

They did not choose their circumstances in life. Unemployment, extreme poverty and a dysfunctional family life are the sadly the norm. Alcohol and substance abuse have become methods of survival, but have devasting consequences with inappropriate behaviour and long-term health issues.  Many of children have been exploited by members of their own family. Any resistance is met with rejection and they are left to survive on their own at an early age. In our view, rather than being seen as a scourge on society they should be lauded as heroes for surviving the physical and emotional abuse. As a result of sexual abuse, many of the children are infected or affected by HIV/Aids and other life threatening diseases. All children have the right to be protected, and if we are to stop the cycle of abuse, preventative initiatives had to be applied.

The endless cycle of abuse must be broken
A prevention programme to 'intervene early in families' was born

With the help of Rotary Pletternberg Bay the foundations of the Masizame ECD Prevention Programme were laid in 2007. This was the first such facility in the .

From our humble beginnings, the  PPC is now serving over 120 vulnerable children on a daily basis. Our track record of our  PPC Grade R graduates is growing year upon year

The children who have graduated from  developed improved social skills, and the self-confidence to cope with the challenges of mainstream schooling. They are enthusiastic and are motivated for life long learning. Without exception, they have all sustained a 100% track record of attendance at mainstream school. We hope that these shining stars will be "role-models" to the remaining children at our PPC.

The more that we engage with the families, we discover a cycle of decades of abuse and extreme poverty. As a result of physical and emotional abuse, many of the children are infected or affected with HIV/Aids and other life threatening diseases. Our parental empowerment programmes are growing both in quantity and quality. Parents are selected for vocational training, only once they have dedicated themselves to volunteer their services at  for a period of no less than 6 months.

We need a new vehicle to transport our children safely and with dignity

desperately needs to acquire a passenger transporter vehicle to be able to transport the children attending our ECD centre in accordance with Health and Safety regulations. This vehicle will be used to transport the children

  • Daily Transportation to and From Masizame
  • Transportation for Planned Medical Visits to HIV Clinic
  • Transport for emergency medical treatment
  • Weekly transportation Sports and recreation activities
  • Monthly Parental meetings
  • Quarterly Parental workshops
  • Monthly Lifeskills outings
  • Regular Outings

We are looking for a financial grant of R440,000 (Four Hundred and Forty Thousand Rand) to sponsor the purchase of a new IVECO 22 seater transporter. This would enable us to safely transport children and reduce the number of our trips on a daily basis. In the spirit ofUbuntu", Masizame would in turn donate our existing Kia K2700 to a deserving charity serving children in our district. This donation with a capex value of R60,000 could be channeled through .

Our objectives cannot be met without the faith, inspiration and financial resources of the organizations such as Rotary. We are inspired by the funding opportunities that you have granted to other NGO's in our region.

We have nominated  Peter Adams to represent Masizame on further discussions in supporting our funding application. Use the link on this page to contact him.

Please take a look at the slides above about our project.
